December 4 is National Cookie Day. According to the theultimateholidaysite.com, cookies were something of a fluke: "It's crazy to think that the cookie was an accident, but back when ovens didn't have temperature gauges, bakers would dribble a little cake batter in the oven to be sure it was ready. Finally someone clued in to the fact that these little edibles were amazing and the cookie -- from the Dutch word keokje, meaning 'little cake' -- was born."
