January 2 is Pajama Day!!!

Attention Patients: Thursday, January 2 is Pajama Day. So, if you have an orthodontic appointment this Thursday, please come dressed in your pajamas and join the members of team Jarrell who will be in their jammies as well. Happy New Years Eve; be safe!

Okay, patients, here's the list of items to wear to your appointments for our final week of the "12 Days of Christmas": Monday: wear Christmas lights; Tuesday: wear a Christmas bow; Wednesday:  wear reindeer nose or antlers; Thursday: wear elf shoes! Help Us Dress Our Mitten Tree!

When you are out doing your holiday shopping, we would love it if you would pick up a pair of mittens, a scarf, or hat to put on the Jarrell Orthodontics’ Mitten Tree. Each year, we put a small tree up in the reception area that we ask you, our patients and your families, to adorn with mittens, gloves, scarves and hats. All donations will be given to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need. This year’s donations will not be taken to the Salvation Army until Friday, January 10 which will give us all time to shop the Christmas sales and those wonderful after Christmas sales and clean the stores out of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for our Mitten Tree. There are as many little hands in Kokomo in need of mittens as ever. If we work together, we can warm some hands and hearts with our generosity. Thank you for all you do for those less fortunate throughout the year!

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month

It's a great time to remind your patients about the importance of screenings, since approximately 1 in 14 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer during their lifetime. These screenings don't apply to smokers only - 18% of lung cancer patients have never smoked in their lives. World Kindness Day

Today is World Kindness Day. Have you ever been the recipient of a "random act of kindness"? Some of the members of team Jarrell have. Carrie, our professional relations coordinator was. Years ago, she was looking for change in her purse to purchase a ticket at the airport for the train to travel into Washington, D.C. A man standing next to her saw her looking for change and gave her the money for the ticket. When she thanked him, he simply told her to pay it forward and help someone else out some day which she has done. One of our orthodontic assistants, Breanna, also had a story to share. She was in the drive through and ordered dinner for 7 people with the bill totaling almost $40 when she got to the window to pay, she learned that the person in front of her had paid the bill and added dessert. She paid it forward by paying for the person behind her. We love hearing stories like these. How do you plan to celebrate World Kindness Day?

Happy 30th Anniversary, Denise!

Today is a big day at Jarrell Orthodontics. Thirty years ago today, Denise Culbertson started her journey as an employee of Jarrell Orthodontics. We want to wish her the happiest of 30th anniversaries and tell her just how much she means to the practice and our patients. Denise is our Office Manager, Treatment Coordinator and jack of all trades. We simply do not know what we would do without her. She is the "go to" person for so much at Jarrell Orthodontics that we could never guess at how many times a day the response to someone's question is "ask Denise". Employees who stay on the job and continue to enjoy their jobs as much as Denise does are rare indeed. So, Happy Anniversary, Denise! It really would not be the same at Jarrell Orthodontics without you!

It's Going to be a Happy Halloween!

Plan for a fun day on Halloween at Jarrell Orthodontics! The office will be "dressed up" for the day as well as the members of team Jarrell. Don't forget that patients who come to their appointments on October 31 in costume will be entered to win a $10 gift card!

Dress Up in Costume for Oct. 30 & 31 Appointments

We are hoping to see a real cast of characters in our office for their appointments on October 30 and 31.  We know our patients are all "characters" but we want to see them dressed up in Halloween costumes when they come for their appointments at Jarrell Orthodontics on Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, October 31.  The staff will be in full costume and we cannot wait to see what our patients dream up for themselves!  Gift cards will be awarded to the "best dressed" patient each day as determined by team Jarrell!

We had a great time with the 3rd grade students from Western who came to Jarrell Orthodontics the last 2 Fridays for field trips.  They learned about brushing and flossing, how we use braces to straighten teeth, saw how we scan teeth using the itero scanner, how and why we take x-rays and made a mold of their thumbs to take home.  It's a whirlwind morning for team Jarrell when the 3rd graders are here but we love it!

Attention: Coats for Kids deadline has been extended to Thursday, October 17! We are so pleased to report that our box of coats for the Salvation Army Coats for Kids campaign is now overflowing. Please keep those coats coming; we have had several dropped off today. Thank you all for your generosity!

Pumpkin Decorating Contest is ON!

It's that time of year again...the members of Team Jarrell have tried to outdo each other in the annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest and this year, there's a twist. For our October patient contest, we are asking patients to match the member of Team Jarrell with the pumpkin they decorated in addition to asking them to vote for their favorite pumpkin. Creations range from Minnie Mouse to Mike from Monsters, Inc. to a fishbowl complete with a live fish to a "pumpkin"...so it's gonna be a tough one to judge. We hope our patients have as much fun looking at the pumpkins as our team members had making them. We love October!!!

Kid's Club Outing to Guffey Acres Fast Approaching!

Our Kid's Club Outing to Guffey Acres is less than 1 week away! Do you have your wristbands for your Kid's Club member? Oct. 8, Jarrell Orthodontics has reserved Guffey Acres from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for our Kid's Club members. Everyone must have a wristband to enter. Each Kid's Club member is allowed up to 4 wristbands which will be available at Jarrell Orthodontics until 4:00 p.m. on Tues. October 8. See you there!!!

Don't Forget: Coats for Kids & Guffey Acres, & Football!

The fall brings a whole new batch of activity to Jarrell Orthodontics. You have until October 14 to bring in new or gently used coats to donate to the Salvation Army's Coats for Kids program. They are in dire need of warm winter coats. The backstock they had amassed was wiped out in this spring's flooding so they are starting at zero. Also, Kid's Club members are invited to the 3rd Annual Kid's Club Outing at Guffey Acres. We have the whole place to ourselves from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. October 8. Each Kid's Club member may get up to 4 wristbands; everyone who attends must have a wristband which may be picked up at Jarrell Orthodontics through October 8. Finally, don't forget to take part in "Dr. Kevin's Pick the Winners" football contest each week. Our weekly winner receives a $10 gift card to Culvers and the overall winner at the end of the season wins a jersey from the NFL team of their choice (New England Patriots excluded, of course!). We love the fall and all the activity it brings!

It's time to begin making plans for our Kid's Club Outing to Guffey Acres! We love Guffey Acres and have set the date for this year's event which will be held October 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Invitations went out yesterday to all Kid's Club members. If your child does not receive an invitation and he/she is a member of the Kid's Club, give us a call. Otherwise, mark your calendar for October 8 and look for your postcard invitation in the mail!

Coats for Kids Needs Your Help!

The box is out and ready to be filled to overflowing with coats. The Salvation Army's annual Coats for Kids program is in full swing and Jarrell Orthodontics is a Drop-Off site for the program. Between now and October 14, we will be gathering new or gently used coats (hats, gloves, mittens and scarves are also needed) for distribution on October 25 to those in need. The need is particularly great this year as the spring flooding severely damaged their north Thrift Store and destroyed all remaining coats. So, they are starting with zero inventory. If you can help us fill the box with coats, we would certainly appreciate it. You may drop coats off at Jarrell Orthodontics Monday - Thursday from 8:30 to 5:00 and Friday from 8:30 to 1:00. Get Your NFL Picks in by 5:00 p.m. Sept. 5

Dr. Kevin's Pick the Winners has begun! Patients have until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, September 5 to make their picks which are always due the day of the first game of the week. Patients get 1 point per correct pick; we post the standings on our website each week. The weekly winner (person who gets the most right)receives a $10 gift card to Culvers. The person who accumulates the most points at the end of the season wins the NFL jersey from the team of their choice (New England Patriots excluded, as always!). 2013 NFL KICKOFF SEPT. 5

The 2013 NFL Season officially kicks off Thursday, September 5. That means the return of Dr. Kevin's Pick the Winners. Tuesday, September 3, we will be sending out the Week 1 entry. Each time the team you predicted to win actually wins, you get a point. Each week, we award a $10 Culvers gift card to the person who gets the most points that week. We keep track of the standings throughout the season and the persoN with the most points at the end of the season gets an NFL jersey of their choice (New England Patriots excluded of course!). So, let's get ready for some football!!!

No Boil & Bite Mouth Guards for Braces Wearers!

For anyone who participates in sports these days, mouth guards are highly recommended for the protection of one’s teeth. This is particularly true for those undergoing orthodontic treatment. Getting hit in the mouth is no picnic for anyone but for those wearing braces getting hit in the mouth can mean double trouble. So, mouth guards are a must. However, “Boil & Bite” mouth guards are not the answer for patients in braces as they can actually pull the braces off the teeth. Jarrell Orthodontics provides mouth guards (purple, yellow, green, blue, black, red or white) to patients at no cost. Mouth guards are a must if you take part in sports! Request one the next time you come in for your appointment.

Kokomo Kona Ice is Making a Stop at Jarrell Orthodontics!

Just 2 Days from Our Night at the Movies

Although the office has been decorated for weeks, we cannot believe we are just 2 days away for our "Night at the Movies" on July 26 at Foster Park, we wanted to give you an update on the pre-movie activities we have planned:


7:30 p.m. - ...A Zumba Demonstration by Missy’s Fitness in which everyone is welcome to take part;

8:00 p.m. - Officer Ryan Shuey and his K9 dog Danny, from the Kokomo Police Department, will be on hand for a K-9 demonstration;

8:30 p.m. - Hot Air Balloon Craft by Planet Mind Learning Store

9:15 or 9:30 Our movie "Up" will begin - when it gets dark

The Serving in Love team from Morningstar Church will provide free popcorn during the evening and the folks from New Beginnings Church will provide free bottled water. And, all kinds of yummy "fair type food" will also be available for sale.

Brian from Brian's Balloons spent Thursday afternoon at Jarrell Orthodontics delighting patients and staff alike with his balloon creations.  While we try to have fun every day at work, we have a blast when Brian is in the house.  His ability to craft anything out of balloons, coupled with his sense of humor, makes for a very entertaining time.  Thank you, Brian; we loved having you "in the house"!

Brian's Balloon's Will Be In The House July 18

Our summer of fun continues…join us July 18 at Jarrell Orthodontics from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. when Brian from Brian’s Balloon will be in the house to make fantastic balloon creations for anyone who wants one. Brian makes amazing creations out of balloons and we all had great fun the last time he joined us at the office. So, mark your calendars and be thinking of the creation you want Brian to craft for you…he works wonders with his balloons!

Join Us for A Night at the Movies July 26

Everyone mark your calendars for Friday, July 26 when Jarrell Orthodontics presents a Night at the Movies. We will be showing the Disney movie "Up" at Foster Park that night. This is a free event open to everyone in the community. Pre-movie activities, including a demonstration by KPD and their K9's, and a craft by Planet Mind, will begin at 7:30 or so; the movie will begin when it is dark. See you there!!!

Show Your Pride in the USA!

4th of July is just around the corner and we want you to join the members of team Jarrell when we celebrate July 2 and 3 and show our pride in the United States of America. On those days, patients who join the members of Team Jarrell and wear red, white, and blue, stars and stripes, or other patriotic clothing/hats/jewelry to their appointment will be eligible to win a $10 gift card. So, join us as we celebrate the 4th of July a day or two early by wearing the colors of your country!

2nd Annual Beach Bash a Hit!

Just wanted to send a quick "thank you" out to the folks at Kokomo Beach for making our Beach Bash such a safe, fun filled event for our patients, families and friends.  We also want to thank everyone who attended for making this 2nd annual event such a success.  The weather was as perfect as the company!  We could not have asked for more.

The countdown to Kokomo Beach has begun!  We are 4 nights away from Jarrell Orthodontics' 2nd Annual Beach Bash at Kokomo Beach from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  If you have not yet exchanged your postcard invitation for tickets, you need to do so before the close of business Thursday as you must have a ticket to enter the Beach Bash.

Hat Days are Back June 5 & 6!

Listen up, patients!  If you have an appointment on Wednesday, June 5 or Thursday, June 6, be sure to wear your hat for Hat Days!  The members of Team Jarrell are busy figuring out which hats they will sport during the work day.  We invite you to join us.  We will be taking pictures of all patients who wear hats to their appointments and one lucky patient from Logansport and Kokomo will win gift cards for playing along!

Jerome the Gnome

Jarrell Orthodontics is taking part in the Kokomo Howard County Public Library's Jerome the Gnome contest this summer.  There are several ways for participants to take part in the program and get entered to win some great prizes:

a.  they can pick up a Jerome the Gnome at the Library and take pictures of him on their adventures this summer which they post on the library's Facebook page;

b.  they can pick up a Jerome the Gnome form, take it to a number of businesses (Jarrell Orthodontics is one), find the Jerome the Gnome at the business with a secret clue and write the answer to the question on the form. Finished forms should be submitted to the Library's Circulation Desk or bookmobile.

The Jerome the Gnome at Jarrell Orthodontics has braces on his teeth and is getting a good talking to from Flat Dr. Kevin because Jerome at popcorn at the movies and damaged his braces - a Major NO NO!

All we ask you to do is take a picture of Flat Dr. Kevin on your travels around Kokomo, the country, or the world and send it to the office via email or mail. At the end of the contest, we will put all your pictures into a hat & choose a winner who will receive a: Kindle Fire HD

Our Flat Doc Summer Travel Contest will run from May 28 to August 9. The winner will be chosen by random drawing from all pics submitted.

So, remember to pack Flat Dr. Kevin when you travel this summer, take pictures of him wherever you go (if you don’t leave town, he would love to see Old Ben, the tree stump, Kokomantis, and more!

Date Set for 2nd Annual Beach Bash!

The beach themed decorations are up and we are looking forward to June 20.  We are gearing up for Jarrell Orthodontics' 2nd annual Kokomo Beach Bash Thursday, June 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kokomo Beach.  Invitations will be sent out the latter part of May.  Patients, mark your calendars for this 2nd annual event.  Last year, we had 800 patients join us with their friends and family members and we had a blast.  See you there!

We are going Back to the 80s!

It's going to be totally tubular at Jarrell Orthodontics as we go "Back to the 80s" Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9. The Jarrell team members will be dressed in 80s clothing and we want our patients to do the same. Those who join in the fun and dress in those awesome 80s outfits will be entered to win a gift card!

CAM in Need Due to Flood

*URGENT NEED!!!! We were just informed that due to the flood in downtown Kokomo, everything in the CAM (Coordinated Assistance Ministries) warehouse has been lost. Their warehouse was full of used furniture, appliances, tv's, beds, etc. If you or anyone you know has anything that to donate please call CAM at 452-8963 . Any and all donations that CAM receives are never sold, everything is always given to those in need. All donations are tax deductible. Help spread the word!

We want to put 1 lucky family under the Big Top.  We have tickets to the Kelly Miller Circus May 10 at Fortune Park in Kokomo to give away to 1 lucky patient.  To enter, patients simply tell us their favorite part of the circus.  The contest ends May 7!  You will find the entry form on our website:  www.jarrellortho.com

Play Ball!

The first week of April is a magical time for those who long to hear the words "Play Ball" because it marks  the beginning of another season of Major League Baseball which is cause to rejoice for many.  To celebrate this on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11, we will be celebrating all things baseball.  Jarrell team members will be wearing baseball themed attire to work on those days and we ask patients to do the same.  Those who come dressed to "swing for the fences" will be entered to win a gift card.  So, play ball!!!

We wanted to give you a "heads up" that we will not be seeing patients during the week of spring break: Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5. But someone will be in the office during the week to answer phones, take payments, etc. Please remember, you can always call the office on-call number at 432-3992 for assistance if you have a problem during non-business hours.  We will resume regular office hours Monday, April 8. We apologize for any inconvenience!

This year, it looks like Peter brought his friends and family with him. Since the Bunny Family is holding their family reunion at Jarrell Orthodontics this March, we thought we would have our patients “hop” around the office and count the bunnies in DR. KEVIN’S BUNNY HOP CONTEST. Simply give us your best guess as to how many bunnies have hopped into the office and you will be entered to win our Easter Basket
filled to overflowing with Fun Stuff!!!!

Our Easter Contest will run February 26 through March 26.

The winner will be chosen at random from all correct entries submitted or the guess that comes the closest in case no one can find all our bunnies!

Our Logansport patients are wearing their hearts on their sleeves, ears, necks, etc.   Good job, patients, in wearing your hearts to your orthodontic appointment!  Hope you enjoy the Dove chocolates we are giving out for Valentine's Day!

We gave 5 classes of 3rd graders from Western Intermediate School a tour of the office and an overview of the orthodontic process.  They learned about xrays, how we scan teeth digitally to make 3D models of teeth, the proper way to brush and floss, and they made models of their thumbs.  Before they hit the door and got back on the bus for the ride back to Western School, each student got a little goody bag and their thumb to take home!  Next week, the other 4 classes of 3rd grade students.  It is always a busy but fun field trip for all!

Makers of Monopoly Retire 1 Token & Add Another

The folks at Monopoly recently ran a contest to ask people which Monopoly token should be retired and what new token should take its place. The world has spoken. The token that will be retired is the iron. The new token will be a cat! Doesn't anyone iron anymore???

Kids laugh around 400 times a day. Grown-ups just 15 :-(

You know you need to floss your teeth but it can be tricky with braces. When we place braces on our patient's teeth, we give them a package of Plackers Orthopicks. If you are having trouble finding them locally, you might give Walgreen's a try.

What a great season for Dr. Kevin's Pick the Winners. We had quite a few patients vying for the grand prize NFL jersey right up through Week 17. But Adam M. came up as our grand prize winner by a total of 1 point! Adam's #10 blue Andrew Luck jersey is a perfect fit for him! Thank you to everyone who played our Dr. Kevin's Pick the Winners this past year.  Now, all we have left of football for the 2012 season is to see which Harbaugh brother ends up with a Super Bowl ring!
